A Fond Farewell to Longtime Dental Assistant Diana

During your next visit to the office, you will certainly notice that a very key individual of the Roselle Park Dental family is missing. My amazing dental assistant of eight years – Diana – has talked about moving back to her family's native country of Ecuador for as long as I can remember. That day is sadly upon us as Diana, her husband Carlos, and their beautiful children Valentina and David will be moving back to their country in pursuit of a more relaxed life.

The other day I was asked how will you ever replace Diana? Truthfully, she is not someone that is replaceable. She adds so much to our practice, all of our colleague's lives, and our patient's lives. It is such a blessing when an employee loves what they do and has so much passion for their job. That is our Diana.

She has an extremely delicate touch, except with her "moody boss", and a pleasant demeanor that puts all patients at ease when she is next to them. It has been an absolute pleasure to have such a loyal kind soul by my side for all these years.

I am happy for her and her family because they are making their dream a reality, but Diana you will be sorely missed!

Dr. Oshidar and Dr. Rodriguez Complete LANAP Certification

Dr. Oshidar and Dr. Rodiguez are now fully certified in LANAP® (also known as Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure) a revolutionary form of periodontal treatment.

By using a state-of-the-art laser, they are capable of treating gum disease and providing aesthetic gum recontouring in a minimally invasive fashion – no cutting and no suturing required. Better yet, the recovery period is greatly sped up, and healthy tissue regenerates at a much faster pace!

We’re proud to feature LANAP as a state-of-the-art method for treating periodontal (gum) disease. This modern laser is a big improvement over the traditional tools, allowing our doctors to not only selectively remove diseased areas of tissue, but also encourage the growth of healthy tissue as a replacement! The treatment process is also much more minimally invasive as a whole, featuring the following improvements:

The height of the gum tissue around the teeth is preserved at a much greater level.
Uncomfortable post-operative symptoms (oral swelling, inflammation, bleeding, sensitivity, etc) are greatly reduced, and patients are likely to recover from the service at a much greater speed.
Sterilization is instant with the LANAP laser, virtually eliminating the need for sutures.

Instead of multiple, time-consuming appointments, patients can be finished with their care in a much swifter timeframe, allowing them to return to their regular routine faster.

How does LANAP work? It’s simple – Dr. Oshidar or Dr. Rodiguez will use the laser to eliminate infected gum tissue that has pulled away from your tooth roots. After getting rid of calculus deposits, a second pass with the laser eliminates remaining bacteria and jumpstarts the regeneration process. In many cases, LANAP can rescue natural teeth that would have otherwise required extraction down the road!

Dr. Oshidar Teaches Other Dentists About Implantology

Over the weekend, Dr. Oshidar held another successful continuing education course for other dentist who want to learn more about implementing implants into their practice.
Teaching and consulting other dentists is a one of Dr. Oshidar’s true passion, so he loves the opportunity to share his knowledge about using the latest technology and methods in Dental Implantology.

One of the dentists in attendance wrote this wonderful Google review:

“If you attend his seminar, you can tell right away how much Dr. Oshidar genuinely enjoys sharing his knowledge and experiences with other fellow doctors. Especially for young dentists, like myself, who’s seeking for a mentor who can inspire you and guide you to a right path to success, I definitely recommend to attend his future seminar. You will be able to learn not only dental technical skills but also his unique efficient way to manage the office. If you have a right mindset and attitude to learn, Dr. Oshidar will be more than happy to be your long term teacher and mentor.” – Dr. Soolim Lee

If My 21-Month-Old Can Floss – So Can You!

Dr. Oshidar’s Daughter Arianna Demonstrating Correct Toddler Flossing Technique!
The American Dental Association recommends cleaning between your teeth once a day to help prevent cavities and gum disease. Cleaning between your teeth, helps remove a sticky film called plaque. Plaque contains bacteria that feeds on leftover food or sugar in your mouth. When that happens, it releases an acid that can eat away at the outer shell of your teeth and cause cavities.

We all know we should floss every day! But that doesn’t mean we are actually doing so. According to a recent study, nearly a third of Americans never floss their teeth.  So what gives???

In order to successfully start flossing your teeth on a daily basis, you have to make it a habit. Here are ten great tips to help establish a new flossing routine.
  1. Know the Consequences of NOT Doing It. Understanding the scary outcome of failing to floss will give you some serious motivation to do so. Bleeding Gums, Tartar Buildup, Bad Breath, Premature Tooth Loss, Tooth Discoloration, and Cavities are just a few! The list goes on and on …
  2. Find a Flossing Friend. It should not be hard to find a friend to make the change along with you. Having someone else to hold you accountable will keep you motivated as well. Make a pact to text a picture of yourself flossing each day!
  3. Make a Month Long Commitment. Telling yourself you have to do something for 30 days seems a lot more manageable than “FOREVER”.  However, in reality, three to four weeks is more than enough time to establish a new habit.
  4. Put it in Writing. Doing so will clearly define what your plan is and keep you focused on success.
  5. Do it Every Day. It is harder to establish a habit from a behavior you only do a few days a week, than to create a daily habit. Moreover, it is recommended that you floss EVERY day.
  6. And Be Consistent. Consistency is key to make a behavior stick. Flossing at the same time and in the same place every day will create cues for your mind and body to start initiating the behavior almost automatically.
  7. Form a Trigger. Similarly creating a ritual you perform right before you floss, such as humming the same song as you brush your teeth or winking at yourself in the mirror before you take out the floss will create an autopilot over time.
  8. Give Yourself Friendly Reminders. So you don’t forget to floss when you are rushing or tired in the beginning, write a note and stick it to the bathroom mirror or set yourself a daily timer on your phone.
  9. Take it One Day at a Time. Rome was not built in a day. Give yourself time to establish a new daily flossing habit. If you forget one day, just try to remember to do it the next day.
  10. If At First You Don’t Succeed … Try Try Again. Your first attempt may not be successful. You may floss for a few days in a row and then forget for a few days. But don’t throw in the towel! Just shake it off – tell yourself you are going to start again – and know that it may take a few tries but you WILL be successful in the end! And your teeth, gums, and DENTIST will thank you for it!

End of the Year Insurance Reminder: Limited Appointments Left!

Just a friendly reminder – if you have dental treatment you've put on hold, now is a good time to schedule an appointment to maximize your insurance benefits.

Even if you don't need extensive treatment, you should schedule a regular checkup and cleaning appointment to help prevent costly procedures in the future. You're probably paying a monthly premium to keep your insurance, so be sure to use it before the year end!

Now may also be a good time to use any remaining flexible account dollars. Flexible accounts are created to set aside pre-tax dollars for medical and dental expenses, but if that money is not used before the end of the year, it is lost to you forever.

5th Annual Community Give Back Day Was a Huge Success!

On November 18th, we held our 5th Annual Community Give Back Day and opened our doors to help neighbors in need of dental services free of charge. We gave away over $12,000 worth of free dentistry, treating over 20 people who received dental care including cleaning, fillings, extractions and x-rays.

Towards the end of the day, one lucky patient received a complimentary dental implant from Dr. Oshidar who performed the implant while training an associate doctor on proper procedures.

All of us at Roselle Park Dental are truly so grateful for our patients, so each year we look forward to this special event when we get to give back!

TAP into Roselle Park attended the event – read the news story here: www.tapinto.net/towns/roselle-roselle-park/articles/roselle-park-dental-hosts-a-day-of-giving-back

Welcome Dr. Alhelawe and Farewell to Dr. Lee

We wish Dr. Lee well on his upcoming journey to a Prosthodontic Residency in Connecticut.

We are also thrilled to welcome Dr.  Ingy Alhelawe to the practice! She lives by the motto "Exist to Inspire" and dreams of a world where laughter and love are the motivating factors for people to become the best version of themselves. As a dentist with various experiences, she takes pride in providing the highest standard of care for her patients all while keeping them smiling and as comfortable as possible.

Born along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea in Alexandria, Egypt, Ingy and her family moved to New Jersey when she was two to seek out a better life opportunity. As she broke the barriers of her cultural expectations, she sought out a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences, Middle Eastern Studies, and Psychology. She later earned her DMD from Boston University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. She then went on to complete the highly respected general practice residency at the Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; one of the best in the nation.

Community outreach plays a large role in Ingy's life – she has spent time in various parts of the country and the world providing care to underserved populations. When she's not busy treating patients you can find her barefoot in a forest, doing headstands on top of a mountain or having dance parties with her two year old niece Lily.
