What Are Dentists Really Thinking?
If you ever wanted to know what your dentist is thinking, read this funny article! One quote is, "When someone meets you for the first time, the first thing they notice is eyes. Second is teeth, and third is hair. But people spend way more money on their hair than their teeth." Click here to read more.

Gums Get Healthier With Weight Loss
Did you know that the health of your gums improves with weight loss? According to Medical News Today, a study found that the human body is better at fighting gum disease when fats cells, which cause inflammation, disappear. Neglected inflammation has harmful effects, particularly in your gums. It can erode bone, cause tooth loss, and enter the bloodstream, leading to other serious complications. The fix? Stay fit, brush and floss at least twice a day and see your dentist regularly!

Halloween
In light of the fact that Halloween is on Monday, I wanted to say eat lots of candy all at once! It is actually better for your teeth to gorge on candy in one sitting than to nibble throughout the day. Why? Your saliva will naturally neutralize the sugar/acid in about an hour. But, if you leave your teeth to bathe in the enamel-corroding acid, your saliva won't be enough to wash it away.

Women Are Kicking Butt!
Did you know that women are kicking men's butts in terms of gum health? According to the Centers for Disease Control, women are 26 percent more likely than men to floss on a daily basis. In one study, women had better indicators of periodontal health, including lower incidence of dental plaque, calculus and bleeding; all of which can be used as markers of periodontal disease. Easy Ways to Prolong Your Life
In an article written by Dr. Oz, he explained that there are six easy ways to prolong your life. According to the Healthy Living on Shine article, one of the six ways is to floss! Dr. Oz explains that if you do not floss, bacteria hiding between your teeth will infect your gums, causing gum disease, and even enter your bloodstream. This causes inflammation in your arteries and contributes to plaque buildup on blood vessel walls. As we have written in the past, studies show that there is a link between gum disease and other serious diseases such as respiratory infections and neurodegeneration. For the proper flossing technique, please visit our flossing instructions page. The other five ways to prolong your life were to get up every hour, eat an egg, take chromium, do a self-massage and check your pulse.

Be Sure To Eat Your Yogurt!
According to Prevention online, eating yogurt can help prevent gum disease. The article states that adults who consume 55 grams of yogurt per day have significantly fewer markers of periodontal disease than those who don't include yogurt in their diets. The reason? The lactic acid in yogurt helps protect gums from harmful bacteria that cause the disease.

Oral Cancer Screening
If you are one of the millions of people who watch the Dr. Oz Show, you may have seen a segment on the importance of receiving a screening for oral cancer. According to the Oral Cancer Foundation, each year in the U.S. alone, approximately 36,000 individuals are newly diagnosed with oral cancer. A startling fact is that the death rate from oral cancer is very high- about 43% of those diagnosed will not survive more than five years. Although these facts are very alarming, early detection leads to higher survival rates.
You may know that certain risk factors such as tobacco use, excessive alcohol consumption and unprotected sun exposure can contribute to oral cancer. But did you know that increasing numbers of young, non-smoking individuals are being diagnosed with oral cancer? According to the Oral Cancer Foundation, the most likely causative factor is HPV16 viral infection, the same virus that is responsible for more than 95% of all cervical cancers.
At Roselle Park Dental, our oral cancer screening is painless, quick and inexpensive. We conduct oral cancer screenings for our patients once per year. We incorporate our oral cancer screening into our patients' routine cleanings and check ups. For more information about our oral cancer screening, please visit our Website.

Treatment for Headaches, Migraines, TMJ/TMD at Roselle Park Dental
The doctors and staff at Roselle Park Dental have been working closely with leaders at the University of Nevada Las Vegas Dental School to help treat patients with headaches, migraines, and TMJ/TMD. Using the latest, cutting-edge technologies, Roselle Park Dental is able to more accurately and more effectively pin point a patient's problem and reduce, if not relieve, their pain.
Many people suffer from headaches and several people experience debilitating migraines. These symptoms may be caused by changes in one's bite. You may notice a change in your bite after receiving restorative dental care such as fillings, crowns, bridges or implants. As dental work ages, it may break down, causing an imbalance between the muscles and joints. Even as we age ourselves, our muscles and joints change the way they operate. A change in one's bite can also be caused by trauma, such as a car accident or sports injury, or even from receiving orthodontic (braces) care in one's youth.
Research shows that people who have taken more than 600 Tylenol during their lifetime will start to have permanent kidney and liver damage. 600 Tylenol sounds like a lot, but if you are a person who suffers from headaches and migraines every day, the number of pills quickly adds up. Our treatment will help reduce the severity of these pains or stop your headaches and migraines completely, so that you won't have to take medication.
Some people hear clicking, popping or grinding in the joint when they open their mouths to talk, laugh or eat. Some even have pain or a restrictive opening when they try to open their mouth. This may be a sign of aging or possible degeneration (arthritis) in the temporal mandibular joint. We often hear people complain that they wake up in the morning with jaw pain because of clenching or grinding at night. This problem can damage and destroy your teeth and dental work.
At Roselle Park Dental, we are one of the few offices in the country that can help treat people with these symptoms. We help to balance a person's bite by bringing one's teeth, TM joint, and muscles into proper working alignment. When all these three areas are working properly, we call this a balanced bite, which will help you avoid additional future signs and symptoms such as tooth, jaw, head, neck and shoulder pain; ringing or fullness in the ears; headaches; muscle trigger points; and accelerated aging of your teeth and any dental work. We can help slow, even reverse, the degeneration process of the TM joint because this joint is the only one in the body that is made of fibrous cartilage. When the cartilage is damaged, our treatment aids the body in rebuilding the cartilage so the joint can work as it was originally supposed to.
If you are someone or you know someone who suffers from these symptoms, please contact our office at (908) 245-1745 to learn more about our cutting-edge treatment and how we can improve your daily life. You may also visit our website at http://www.roselleparkdental.com.
